The Tenderfoot Bride edition by Cheryl StJohn Contemporary Romance eBooks

What a sweetheart of a book, a true romance.

There isn’t much I can add to what other reviewers have already said except to say that this wonderful story about the grumpy, hard as stone SOB ranch owner and sweet, determined heroine is what romance is all about. Wonderful secondary characters with the cranky stepmother, the doting cowboys just add value.

My only complaint is it ended too soon. I wanted to read about a wedding and have an epilogue!

My first but not last Cheryl St. John.

This reminded me a lot Ellen O'Connell book, Eyes of Silver, Eyes of Gold, Without Words, Beautiful Bad Man.

The Tenderfoot Bride edition by Cheryl StJohn Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews

Linnea had a hard upbringing, being sold from her father to a man for a husband for money and cigars, and then her husband was nothing but an abusive thief

Will is just a big man whose bark is worse than his bite and hides a soft heart...he takes care of his stepmother and the ranch hands...Willl owns his spread but needs a cook/house keeper...when his sister sends Linnea, will takes one look and judges her to be too week to do the job...he breaks down and gives her a month for a trial...in that time she proves him wrong...Will also find out she's pregnant...can Will forgive her past enough to love her and can Linnea let go of the guilt of her upbringing?!

I gave 4 stars instead of five.. I would have loved an epilogue
Best book I've read in a long time ! Can't wait to read more by Cheryl St. John. Such a sweet story , I couldn't put it down , read it strait through .
Man ... it's not much to it but it's enjoyable. Loved all of the characters just right for inbetween space operas
Linnea has only ever known hardship and abuse in her life. She finds herself alone and penniless and grasps the opportunity to work for Will Tucker, who needs a cook and housekeeper for his remote ranch. As Linnea is sent by Will's sister he expects a good sturdy woman to do the chores.

When Linnea arrives he is shocked to see a small and - to his mind - fragile woman. He instantly decides to send her home and abruptly tells her so. Linnea is used to being knocked back, but decides to clean the messy kitchen before she leaves in the morning as a way of repaying the inconvenience and being allowed to stay overnight.

Will is shocked to see the sparkling kitchen, but packs her into the wagon to head back to the station. He senses that she needs the job and something about her touches his conscience, so he decides to give her a chance to prove herself.

Linnea works hard and surpasses all expectations, even forming a bond with Will's difficult and aging step-mother. The hands love her and Will had to grudgingly admit to himself that there is a lot more to Linnea that he thought.

Their feelings for each other grow and secrets and lies from the past emerge. Linnea blossoms in her new home and Will allows himself to emerge from his armour.

The development of the characters and the love they develop for each other is a joy to read. This is Cheryl St John at her best.
A wonder story line. I love reading bout the old west and the lives of the people that lived through the times and depending on family and neighbors. Just a sweet book. Just a relaxing book
This book was on my keeper shelf for years. After several moves, down sizing, etc., I could not find my copy any more. I missed it enough to buy again. Hero is a rough 30 something rancher. Grouchy as the day is long, but smushy heart inside. (DO NOT TELL HIM I SAID SO!) After years of working trail drives with his best friend, saving money, etc., he finally has his ranch up and running. But he needs some help. He stopped to see his elderly step-mother on his way west. They have never gotten along, but she cannot stay where she is, so he packed her to the ranch with him. He needs a housekeeper to take care of the house, his step-mother and cook for the hands. He writes his sister and she hires someone for him. Heroine arrives. He is expecting an older, big, strong, widow. She is a widow, but young and tiny. And, has a lot of secrets. You will love her, she works hard, will not take anything she does not earn and we are off from there. Great story. Also back story about best friend and sister. You will like this book
Absolutely love this novel. I love the detail and the description of the everyday lives of the two main characters. Really loved Linnea who had a horrible life and still had such strong values and a great work ethic and a desire to be accepted. Did not want to put the book down. You will enjoy this wonderful story about being given the opportunity to start a new life. Will certainly hunt down the rest of Cheryl St. John's books.
